The tour begins with a picturesque 45-minute flight from Kathmandu to Bhairawa Airport, followed by a short drive to Lumbini. The highlight of the tour is the Maya Devi Temple, which is considered the traditional site of the Buddha’s birth. The temple stands on the foundation of previous temples and stupas, including the one built by Ashoka. The tour also includes a drive past Chitwan Sauraha, a popular destination for elephant safari in Nepal.

The modern temple comprises of a simple white structure that protects ancient relics, with the exact spot of the Buddha’s birth identified. The delicate sandstone figures found here are now displayed in the National Museum in Kathmandu. Visitors can also see the sacred pool, where it is said that Maya Devi bathed before giving birth and where the infant Buddha was washed by two mythical serpents.
